Invitations Designed by You
Invitation suites can be a huge expense for any event! Especially when it comes to weddings because you are sending out save the dates before you even get to your full invitation suites and the suites are getting more extensive by the minute. If you are looking to save money or are wanting a specific look to fit your theme, then it is easy to design them yourself!
We have put together a few templates to get you started designing your own invitations! This blog walks through three invitation styles that have been designed in Canva, a free platform that you can use for endless projects. It includes the fonts that were used and walks through the pairings. Designing them yourself means that you can make it fit your perfect vision and it is easier than you think. Canva even has a lot of templates if you want to go that way!
These three examples are very simple so you can easily spice them up with some photos! They are just the invitation with date and time information and do not include templates for the rest of an invitation suite. They also do not have real specific information so as you put all of your details onto the invitation then the space will fill up more. They are all sized at 5 in by 7 in. These templates are just for inspiration and to hopefully help get you started designing your own!
1. The Minimalist
These minimalist invitations in just black and white are really starting to trend and take over the market! They are beautifully classic and timeless which are two qualities many look for in their weddings.
Bodoni FLF is one of our favorite fonts as you will sure see through this blog! We think it is so beautiful and timeless. As many people say when it comes to clothes: You can dress it up or down. The bold heading of the couples names grabs the eye without distracting you from the rest of the important information. The date stands out clearly and information is really easy to fill in on an invitation like this. Fraunces Thin pairs really well with the heading font and adds dimension to the invitation while keeping that minimalist feel.
2. Western Living
If you love western styling and it is the aesthetic or theme of your wedding, then this invitation style is for you. The details at the top, modeled after turquoise jewelry, add that southern feel while still keeping the invitation timeless. This style has really grown over the last few years and it will continue too because of how gorgeous it is.
Six Caps is one of the best fonts for western styling because it just gives that feel. It pairs really well is Caladea that holds that western/rustic theme. When it comes to picking a font for numbers, this can be challenging when the font you have been using for the word does not look good on the numbers. Canva Sans, however, does a great job of keeping the aesthetic with this design.
3. Classic Black Tie
Black Tie weddings will never go away, even as more modern trends come in, because they are such gorgeous, timeless and classic events. You want your invitations to match that theme and help convey to your guests what to expect at your event.
The black and white is so gorgeous! It is the opposite of the minimalist invitation but it is just as timeless. Here is where the font Bodoni FLF can be dressed up and keep the formality within the invitations. The Emitha font is one of the prettiest script fonts out there. It is, however, a Canva Pro font so you can not access it unless you have the subscription. (If you are considering purchasing Canva Pro, I highly recommend it because the tools that it offers are unmatched in the capabilities they offer). This is one of the most classic looking invitation styles and one guaranteed to stand out.
Designing your own invitations can be done using free tools to help get the invitations of your dreams without completely breaking your bank. When you go to look for somewhere to have these printed, be sure to do some shopping around and keep an eye out for sales. The Costco Photo Center has some of the most competitive prices and does not require a membership to use. Canva also now makes prints so you can skip a step in finding another printing service by printing directly through Canva after designing your invitations.
We hope that these templates helped inspire you to design your own or even find your new favorite font, (join our Bodoni FLF train)!
